The Author Helper Suite Help – ReaderLinks WordPress plug-in
The ReaderLinks WordPress Plugin
Since this plugin is specific to the ReaderLinks tool on The Author Helper Suite, we have named it the ReaderLinks WordPress Plugin.
If you are using WordPress for your author website, you have the option to use the ReaderLinks WordPress plugin. NOTE: We strongly suggest that you do not use the WordPress Plugin links for things like Facebook Ads. WordPress is notorious for loading very slowly and Facebook is known to punish advertisers for slow-loading times.
We will refer you to the ReaderLinks plugin help area for assistance installing the plugin, but once you’re done, you’ll want to fill in the information contained on this section of ReaderLinks.
IMPORTANT: If you have any cache plugins running on your WordPress server, they must be set to bypass the page you have set up on your WordPress site for running the ReaderLinks plugin.
Your WordPress site will contact our server only on cache reset cycles. That could be once per hour, once per day, once per week, etc. It all depends on how your WordPress cache plugin has been configured.
What does this mean? A couple of negative things can happen.
1) Geolocation may be adversely affected – The first person who clicks the link at the beginning of a cache-refresh cycle will set the country destination, meaning every subsequent person who clicks will be automatically sent to that country destination as well. For example, if your link is for the Amazon store, and the first person who clicks is in Germany, that person will be sent to the German store for Amazon as expected. But every person afterwards will also be sent to the German store for Amazon regardless of their actual location until your cache refreshes (which will restart the process)
2) ReaderLinks reporting may be off – The number of clicks shown on the ReaderLinks reporting page will only count sporadically because your WordPress site will only notify our system of clicks at cache-reset intervals.
For detailed steps on installing the plugin, please go to the ReaderLinks settings menu and select ReaderLinks WP Plugin. The ReaderLinks Plugin page will give you detailed steps on how to set up the tool.
