Who is The Author Helper?
We’re authors, just like you. We wanted something like this toolset for a long time and so we created it. Now that we’ve been using it for a while, we thought you’d benefit from it, too. After all, it’s our goal at The Author Helper to help authors help themselves!
How does The Author Helper plugin work?
It works off of your own self-hosted WordPress site (sorry, it does not work on WordPress.com because WordPress.com doesn’t allow the installation of 3rd-party plugins). It’s just like having any other WordPress plugin installed on your setup.
Why am I seeing a bunch of hits immediately upon posting a link to Twitter and some other sites?
This could be for a few reasons, actually.
- The service you’re using may create a secondary (shortened) URL to fit their service model. In so doing, they may call back out to your link, causing additional hits.
- Many people use auto-retweeting services. If your Twitter account happens to be in their retweet network, you’ll get a bunch of instant tweets, each of which will register as a hit since Twitter will very the link via a server check.
- There are also services that use server-side “robots” to check links. This may range from one click to many clicks over the initial release of your link.
The good news is that you’ll see these only at the launch of your link. After that it will settle down into a normal pattern of data collection.
Where is my link data stored?
It’s stored in your WordPress database. Fortunately, with things like link URL redirecting, there aren’t any privacy issues to worry about. You’re not going to be storing anyone’s personal data or anything. When a person clicks one of your links, there will be a small cookie attached to their browser page for 24-hours so that if they click your link a few times over the course of an evening, the hit will only register once. So even then you’re not storing their data, they are storing it themselves, and that cookie disappears after 24-hours.
Can I back up and restore my link data?
Of course! And you should. There is always the risk of data corruption when you’re working with databases, though it’s fortunately rare these days. But still, there is an option right inside the tool that will allow you to backup and restore your data as needed. A good example for this would be if you decide to leave one hosting provider for another. You would back up your data on the old service, move to the new one, and then restore to the new one.
What if something breaks?
The sad fact is that any piece of software can have bugs. This is especially true with software that uses the resources of other software (WordPress, for example).
The first thing to do is back up your data. You should seriously consider doing that on a weekly basis! Second is to make sure that all of your other plugins are working and that your website is running fine. Often times the hosting service is having issues with their servers or databases (which causes slow response and that can make plugins behave erratically). You should be able to tell if anything is up by running through your sites and testing that everything is working okay. Next, clear your browser cache and reset your browser. This is the second most common issue when dealing with plugin woes. Finally, if you’re still unable to get things rolling properly, write a very detailed description of the issue and send along to admin@theauthorhelper.com and we’ll try our best to help.

All of your link data is stored on your own server, not ours. So we don’t know how many links you have, what your stats are, or what books you’ve added. It’s all on your side.
- Account Information. We store your name, your subscription type, your license, and your email address. This is so we can allow you to update, change, retrieve, or cancel your license.
- Contact Information. If you elect to sign up to the newsletter, we will store the address in our database and send it to Mailchimp. You can unsubscribe any time, but you will continue to be billed unless you cancel the subscription service.
We will never share your data with any third parties, in ways other than those outlined above. Paying customers will be emailed whenever this policy is updated. The current version of this policy was created on February 25, 2016.

End User License Agreement
READ CAREFULLY: This End User License Agreement (“EULA”) is a legal agreement between you (either an individual or an entity) and The Author Helper. By purchasing, and/or downloading, and/or using any of our SOFTWARE, you agree to be bound by the terms of this EULA.
1. GRANT OF LICENSE
The Free Version SOFTWARE hereby licenses you to make copies of the Free Version SOFTWARE as you wish. You may not charge any distribution fee for the copy or use of the Free Version SOFTWARE itself. You must not represent in any way that you are selling the software itself. Your distribution of the Free Version SOFTWARE will not entitle you to any compensation from The Author Helper.
2. YOUR MEMBERSHIP
You must keep your login credentials secret. You may not distribute, give away, or lend it. We reserve the right to monitor levels of your membership activity and take any necessary action in the event of abnormal usage being detected.
3. VERSION CHECK AND REGISTRATION
WordPress automatically checks for updates to its core and all installed themes and plugins. When doing update checks, WonderPlugin plugins will connect to our website and check for update information.
You will be provided with a unique license key. By entering your license key and registering the domain with the plugin, you can update the plugin in your WordPress dashboard. When registering, your domain name, the plugin name and the key will be sent to our website for verification and registration.
You must keep your license key secret. You may not distribute, give away, lend or re-sell it. We reserve the right to monitor levels of your key usage activity and take any necessary action in the event of abnormal usage being detected.
4. TERMINATION
Without prejudice to any other rights, The Author Helper may terminate this EULA if you fail to comply with the terms and conditions of this EULA. In such event, you must destroy all copies of the SOFTWARE.
5. REFUND POLICY
There is no refund available as this is a FREE product.
6. COPYRIGHT
The SOFTWARE is owned by The Author Helper, and is protected by copyright laws and international copyright treaties, as well as other intellectual property laws and treaties. The SOFTWARE is licensed, not sold, to You for use solely subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement.
7. LIMITED WARRANTY
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. IN NO EVENT WILL THE AUTHOR or AUTHORS BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY DAMAGES, INCLUDING INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, ARISING OUT OF THE USE OF THE SOFTWARE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ THIS LICENSE, UNDERSTAND IT AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY ITS TERMS AS THE COMPLETE AND EXCLUSIVE STATEMENT OF THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN US, SUPERSEDING ANY PROPOSAL OR PRIOR AGREEMENT, ORAL OR WRITTEN, AND ANY OTHER COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN US RELATING TO THE SUBJECT MATTER OF THIS LICENSE.

IN NO EVENT SHALL The Author Helper OR ITS SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, OR INDIRECT DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING OUT OF THE DELIVERY, PERFORMANCE, OR USE OF THE SOFTWARE, EVEN IF The Author Helper HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. ALL LEGAL ISSUE SHOULD BE JUDGED BY THE COURT INDICATED BY The Author Helper.
9. CHANGES TO THIS AGREEMENT
WE RESERVE THE RIGHTS TO MAKE CHANGES TO THIS AGREEMENT WITHOUT ANY PRIOR NOTICE AT OUR SOLE DISCRETION.

www.theauthorhelper.com does not gather any personally identifiable data such as name, address, phone number, or e-mail address from users of this web site without previous notification.
Your email address will only be used by The Author Helper to send replies or messages related to the topic of the mailing list you joined. It will not be sold or disclosed to others.
