Here’s a good Twitter tip for authors and writers!

Do you sometimes wonder what Twitter is good for? It’s so packed with spammy, look-at-me posts that direct contact with real people can be close to nil.

But Twitter can still be used to interact with readers and authors. You just need to know how to engage in a way that delights.

In fact, I’d go as far to say that a vast majority of authors will enjoy any kind of friendly interaction on Twitter because it’s just so hard to come by!

So here’s the tactic:

Next time you have a promotion for your book and you’re climbing the Amazon charts do a little bit of research. Who are the authors above and below you in the top genre/category list? Find them on Twitter! Then craft a few tweets that give them a shout-out and hint at fun competition.

An example? I tweeted this recently and the response was amazing:

This kept my ranking high for an extra two days. All because I interacted with a cool author on Twitter!

Results may vary, but you may as well use Twitter for what it’s good for, right?
